AMY SALOMON grew up in Howell, NJ and currently resides in Maplewood. She holds an A.B. in English from Columbia and an M.S.Ed. in school leadership from the University of Pennsylvania. Amy has been an educator for over 25 years. She began her teaching career at The Gunnery in Washington, CT and then moved to Morristown Beard in Morristown, NJ. For 16 years, she taught at Poly Prep Country Day School in Brooklyn where she was Director of Dance, a 9th grade dean, and Assistant Director of College Counseling. Currently, Amy is the Academic Dean and Director of College Guidance at Mary McDowell Friends School in Brooklyn, NY, a Quaker school for students with language-based learning disabilities.
Amy’s extensive choreographic experience includes over 40 musicals on the community theater and middle/high school level, including with The Premier Theater Company and Algonquin Arts Theatre. Some of her favorites include: Cabaret, West Side Story, and The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee. She also choreographed the original production of Holding On, a rock opera by Maplewood’s own Alexander Kariotis.
Amy is the very proud mother of Jacob and Jessie, the co-stars of her story in this show. Of all of the qualities she hoped to cultivate in her children, perhaps her favorite is their love of musical theatre. She is not ashamed to admit that she still watches the DVD of her son’s high school performance as “Sonny” in In the Heights….although he is now in college! She would like to dedicate this performance to the loving memory of her father, Michael “Papa!” Salomon. He was always in the audience from when Amy began to dance at the age of 5 to Jessie’s 2016 holiday concert where she surprised him with her vocal solo. Undoubtedly, he will be present on show day in spirit as well.
